Application and Advantages of air jet mill in Ceramic Powder Production

Abstract

Ceramic powders are essential raw materials in modern industrial production, widely used in high-tech fields such as electronics, chemical engineering, metallurgy, and aerospace. As industrial demand continues to increase, the requirements for the particle size and performance of ceramic powders are becoming more stringent. air jet mill, as an efficient powder processing equipment, have shown many advantages in the preparation of ceramic powders. This paper explores the application of air jet mill in ceramic powders and the advantages they bring, aiming to provide a reference for optimizing the ceramic powder preparation process.

1. Introduction
The particle size, morphology, and dispersibility of ceramic powders directly affect the performance of ceramic products. Traditional methods for preparing ceramic powders, such as mechanical crushing and wet grinding, often face issues such as uneven particle size distribution, high energy consumption, and serious environmental pollution. As a new generation of powder processing equipment, the air jet mill has gradually become an essential device in ceramic powder preparation due to its high milling efficiency, uniform particle size, and minimal wear.

2. Working Principle of air jet mill
Air jet mill achieve ultrafine grinding by using high-speed airflow to impact, shear, and grind the material. The working principle consists of the following steps:

Material Inlet: After the material enters the air jet mill, it is mixed with high-speed airflow to form a gas-solid two-phase flow.

Mill Process: The gas-solid two-phase flow undergoes strong impact, shear, and friction inside the milling chamber, continuously refining the material’s particle size.

Classification Process: After mill, the material flows with the air into the classification chamber, where particle size grading occurs. Particles that reach the set size are collected, while those that do not meet the standards are returned to the milling chamber for further processing.

Powder Collection: The refined powder is collected as needed, ensuring that the particle size distribution meets the requirements.

3. Applications of air jet mill in Ceramic Powders

Improving the Uniformity of Ceramic Powder Particle Size

Air jet mill have excellent particle size control capabilities. By adjusting process parameters such as airflow speed and milling chamber pressure, precise control over the ceramic powder's particle size can be achieved. The uniform particle size distribution is particularly advantageous for improving the quality of ceramic powders, especially for products that require fine granularity.

Reducing Energy Consumption in Ceramic Powder Production

Air jet mill are highly energy-efficient during the grinding process and can significantly reduce energy consumption. Compared to traditional mechanical grinding equipment, air jet mill use aerodynamics to minimize mechanical friction, saving considerable amounts of energy and thus reducing production costs.

Improving the Dispersibility of Ceramic Powders

Air jet mill can subject the material to intense impact and shear forces during mill, helping improve the dispersibility of the ceramic powder. Good dispersibility not only enhances the performance of the ceramic powder but also provides higher quality assurance for subsequent ceramic product processing.

 Reducing Environmental Pollution

Air jet mill adopt a closed mill process, which effectively reduces the release of dust. Moreover, these machines have low noise and vibration, greatly improving the production environment. This makes them compatible with green manufacturing requirements and helps reduce environmental pollution.

4. Conclusion
The application of air jet mill in ceramic powder preparation demonstrates significant advantages. They can improve the uniformity of ceramic powder particle size, reduce energy consumption, enhance dispersibility, and effectively reduce environmental pollution. As airflow mill technology continues to evolve, its application prospects in the ceramic powder field will be even broader, providing strong support for green manufacturing and efficient production in the ceramic industry.
